Tuesday marks the first day of this nine-day Navratri festival. A large number of devotees rushed to world-famous Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu. Special prayers were also held at Bawe Wali Mata temple in Bahu fort and other Durga shrines across Jammu region.
Devotees worship Goddess Durga and her nine forms throughout nine days and observe fast. The devotees thronged the Sri Kali Mata Temple in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad. Mumbai's Mumba Devi Temple also witnessed assemblage of devotees for special prayers.

On the first day of Navratri, devotees worship Maa Shailputri and start this festival with endless faith and enthusiasm.
Chaitra Navaratri is celebrated along with 'Gudi Padwa', the Hindu New Year festival of Maharashtrians and Ajmer Sharif Khwaja Gharib Nawaj 805 Urs Festival, amalgamating the reasons of celebration among different cultures within the country.
