Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday has announced that they will re-conduct the board examination of class 10 mathematics and class 12 Economics subjects.

Delhi Police registered an FIR in the paper leak case of class 10 Maths paper and class 12 Economics paper after CBSE filed an official complaint. The FIR has been registered in the Madhu Vihar Police Station under IPC section 420, 468, and 471, and has started investigation in the matter.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday has asked strict action over the paper leak issue and expressed his unhappiness to HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar.

The examinations are conducted across the country but this has been reported only from a few schools in Delhi. Cabinet has approved for National Testing Agency to come into effect from next year to ensure leak-proof examination said HRD Minister on CBSE paper leak.

Joint Commissioner of Police-Crime and Special Commissioner of Police-Crime are having a meeting with Delhi Commissioner of Police over CBSE Class X and XII paper leak issue.

Earlier, there were reports of alleged paper leak for class 12 Economics exam. But, the reason for the re-conduction of class 10 mathematics exams are yet to be clarified by CBSE.

The announcement about the re-examination was made by CBSE on its official website. CBSE didn’t announce the dates but mentioned that the dates will be released within a week.

Over 28 lakh students are appearing for examinations of both class 10 and 12, which started from March 5. A total of 16,38,428 students have registered for class 10 and a sum of 11,86,306 for class 12 examinations.

Economics board exam was conducted on March 26 and it was alleged that a question paper got circulated on the popular messaging service WhatsApp a day before the exam. The leaked question paper left teachers shocked as the original question paper had same questions as in the leaked version.

The board had denied allegations of paper leak and called it the work of miscreants. But now the decision of re-conducting both the examination can confirm that there had been errors on part of CBSE to conduct fair exams.

"With the view to uphold the sanctity of the Board Examinations and in the interest of the fairness to the students, the Board has decided to reconduct the examinations in the following subjects. Dates for fresh examinations and the other details shall be hosted on the CBSE website within a week," CBSE stated on the official website said.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on March 15 said, "Received complaints about the Class 12 CBSE Accountancy paper being leaked. Have asked officers of Directorate of Education to investigate and lodge a complaint with CBSE," the minister said.

However, CBSE denied the leak by stating that question papers were found intact in every examination centres. "There has been no leakage of the question paper. All the seals (of packed question papers) have been found intact at all the exam centres," the Board said in its official statement.

"During the process of examination, however, at local level, some miscreants tried to play mischief by circulating messages through WhatsApp and other social media to disturb the sanctity of examinations," the CBSE said then.

If a paper leak is proved then CBSE has to re-conduct the exam, as per their guidelines. In 2014, the board had to re-conduct the exam in Manipur as the physics paper was leaked. In 2006, Business Studies paper was leaked, but the papers were replaced and the exam was conducted as scheduled as the papers were recovered before the exam.
