IIT-Bombay enters into World's top 200 universities club after IIT Delhi and IISc

Good News for the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay for the first time made it to the list of the world’s top 200 universities. According to the QS World University Rankings 2018 which was released on Wednesday shows that IIT-Bombay has his a century by jumping from 219th position to 179th position this year, joining IIT Delhi and the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, in the top 200 institutes of the world in the league.
In the league of top universities the IIT Delhi has be able to grab 172nd this time. However, the IISc has at 152nd spot from 190th rank. It just like a dream to see this happening as it is the the first time in over a decade that three of the country’s universities have made it to the top 200.
Devang Khakhar, Director, IIT-B, said: “The improved ranking is a reflection of the continuous improvement of the quality of education and research at IIT Bombay.”
But the IISc is rated the sixth best institution across the globe in QS’s ‘citations per faculty’ metric.
“This metric measures the research intensiveness and research impact of a university by dividing the number of citations that a university’s research acquires by the number of faculty members at that university. QS notes that IISc’s research papers were cited nearly 82,000 times over the five-year period QS used for this metric,” .
The QS World University Rankings was released by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a British agency that ranks higher educational institutesm responsable to compare leading universities around the globe based on six performance indicators across four areas — research, teaching, employability and internationalisation. Significant weightage (40 per cent of the total score) is attached to an institute’s reputation.Research is another criteria that holds a high weightage at 20 per cent
