HRD Ministry on Saturday has announced that conducting research in order to be considered for promotions in colleges is no longer needed for professors all over the country.

This latest development was announced by Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar at a conference on higher education perspective.

Talking about the same Javedkar said, "We are going to do away with the mandatory clause. Instead, I want teachers to be engaged in student activities. We will make one community activity or student activity mandatory and teachers will be given their scores on basis of that."

At present HRD Minstry is in the way to make some considerable changes in the Academic Performance Index (API), a criterion which decides the eligibility of the teachers to get a promotion further. The changes include making the research works optional for professors.
