Aircel-Maxis case: Chidambaram, son protected from arrest till Aug 7
In a major relief to former union minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti, a Delhi court on Tuesday extended their protection from arrest granted in the Aircel-Maxis case till August 7.
Earlier, the court had granted interim protection from arrest till July 10 to Karti in two cases filed by the CBI and ED in 2011 and 2012, in the Aircel-Maxis case arising out of the alleged 2G spectrum allocation scam.
On May 30, Chidambaram had moved the court seeking protection from arrest in the case, saying all the documentary evidence related to the case were already in the possession of the incumbent government and nothing was to be recovered from him.
The investigation agencies were probing the illegal irregularities in Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance to firm M/S Global Communication Holding Services Ltd granted in 2006 when Chidambaram was finance minister of the country.
