Jammu and Kashmir: Two militants, civilian killed in Shopian encounter
At least two militants were killed and two army soldiers injured in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday. Five to six militants were believed to be holed up in a house.
Following a tip-off from the local sources about the presence of militants in a house in Shopian, the security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in the area. When they were closing in, the militants opened fire on them. Two jawans were injured in the firing.
“He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants opened fired on the security forces, who retaliated,†PTI quoted a police officer as saying.
The bodies of the two militants had been recovered by the security forces and their identities were being ascertained.
On hearing militant son’s encounter, father dies of heart attack
The father of one of the militant involved in the Shopian encounter died of cardiac arrest on hearing the news of his son being holed up in a house by the security forces.
Mohammad Ishaq Naiku suffered a massive cardiac arrest when he got a phone call from his son Jeenat Naiku, who had recently joined the militancy, saying that it could be his last call as he was holed up by the security forces.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
