Uttarakhand: 47 killed as bus falls in 700-feet deep gorge in Pauri Garhwal
In a tragic incident, at least 47 people were killed and 11 others injured after a bus fell down in a 200-feet deep gorge in Dhumakot area of Uttarakhand’s Pauri Garhwal district on Sunday.
While 45 people died on the spot and 13 injured were taken to the PHC Dhumakot, where 2 of them succumbed to injuries during the treatment. Of the remaining 11, another 2 critical injured were referred to Ramnagar, Pauri Superintendent of Police Jagat Ram Joshi said, according to PTI.
Rescue operations were carried out by police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel, he said, adding that all the bodies have been recovered and the injured rescued from the mangled remains of the bus.
Most of the deceased were locals. The private bus was going towards Ramanagar from Bhoan when the driver lost control of the wheel and the overloaded bus fell down in a deep gorge.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat offered his condolences to the families of those killed. He announced Rs 2 lakh compensation for the kins of those who were killed and Rs 50 thousand for the injured.
