The Mercedes-AMG Formula One team bus was held up at gunpoint and robbed outside the Brazilian Grand Prix circuit in Sao Paulo while returning on Friday when they were returning back to their hotel.

According to the reports, the attackers fired shots in the air and held the gun at a team member’s head and looted valuables from the bus. No one was reported injured in the incident.

Expressing his anger over the robbery, upset Mercedes driver and F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton said it wasn’t the first time when such incident happened and Formula One needs to do more to ensure the safety of the team.

“This happens every single year here. F1 and the teams need to do more, there’s no excuse!

He also asked people to offer prayers for his team members and praised their courage to take part in the in the Brazilian Grand Prix even if they were “shaken.”

“Some of my team were held up at gunpoint last night leaving the circuit here in Brazil. Gunshots fired, gun held at one’s head. This is so upsetting to hear. Please say a prayer for my guys who are here as professionals today even if shaken,” Hamilton tweeted.

This was not the first time such incident happened with Formula One team members and earlier in 2010, Britain’s Formula One team driver Jenson Button also became a victim of an attempted robbery.

Last year, a team member’s car was robbed when he was going to hotel from airport ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix.
