Gunmen in South Africa attack taxi drivers; 11 killed, 4 critically injured
Few gunmen on Saturday night opened fire on a minibus with members of a taxi drivers’ association on board, killing 11 people and critically injuring four others, South African police said.
The victims of Saturday night’s attack were returning home after attending the funeral of a colleague when the ambush happened, said Police Brig. Jay Naicker.
He further said the attack happened between towns of Colenso and Weenen in Kwazulu-Natal province and the victims were from Gauteng province.
Police are investigating the reason behind the attack.
In South Africa, tensions between group of taxi drivers wanting the same routes turn into deadly violence.
South African media reported the deaths of 10 people in violence related to rivalries among minibus taxi drivers in Cape Town over one weekend in May.
