New Delhi:
Popular messaging app WhatsApp is blocking links to rival app Telegram on Android and the move is earning it criticism.
The issue, which is limited to only WhatsApp on Android, first came to light through a Reddit thread.
If someone sends links to Telegram from an Android phone to an iPhone, they open on the latter but not on the former.
When a telegram.me or telegram.org link is sent from WhatsApp, it appears only as text and not as a clickable link. However, links to thetelegram.com are opening as expected on WhatsApp chats.
The Verge reports that according to a Telegram employee an update by WhatsApp has led to this issue and the links to the rival app are being disabled.
