Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took the world by surprize as he wore the pink turban gifted to him by Indian counterpart Narendra Modi at his granddaughter’s wedding.
Narendra Modi had gifted a pink turban to Nawz on his surprise visit to Pakistan on Friday.
As reported by news agency Press Trust of India, Sharif had donned the “Indian Rajasthani pink turban” which was gifted to him by PM Narendra Modi.
“Wearing the gifted turban of Mr Modi itself shows that Mr Sharif’s sincere intention towards the neighbouring country. Besides, it also demonstrates that Mr Sharif values the gift of Mr Modi,” a source PML-N source was quoted saying by PTI.
Nawaz’s granddaughter Mehrun Nisa has been married with Raheel Munir, son of well-known industrialist Chaudhry Munir. It is noticeable that Munir was the first to shake hands with Modi when he got off the car at Jati Umrah outside Lahore on Friday evening.
On Friday, Modi had congratulated Sharif on the wedding of his granddaughter and also presented him gifts.
As per the reports, Mehrun Nisa’s wedding was grand affair as around 2,000 guests attended the Walima ceremony of the couple. Some VVIP guests had also come from Saudi Arabia for the occasion.
Both the groom and the bride are alumnus of the London School of Economics. The source also told PTI that Walima ceremonies will also be held in UAE and the UK next month because many friends of the Sharifs could not make it to Lahore.
The wedding ceremony remained a closed door affair but selected footage is released to the media like during the marriage of Sharif’s elder son Husain back in the 1990s.
