New Delhi :

In a shocking news, Islamic State on Tuesday executed a woman journalist Ruqia Hassan for reporting inside its territory.

The news is expected to be the terror group’s first capital punishment of a woman. The information was given away by her journalist friends from Raqqa on Facebook over the weekend.

Hassan who was better known by her pseudonym “Nisan Ibrahim,” wrote about life under IS rule on her personal Facebook page.

She often reported on airstrikes in Raqqa as they happened and covered the events on her Facebook page.

Reports however were unable to confirm the exact date of the execution, her social media reportings abruptly stopped on July 21, 2015.

According to surces, at some point between July and December, Hassan disappeared from Raqqa city but her family was informed of her execution on charges of “espionage” only three days ago.

Her Facebook posts show her capacity to joke about the conditions of journalists working under in IS-held territories.

One of her posts from July 20 read: “Go ahead and cut off the internet, our messenger pigeons won’t complain.”

Ruqia Hassan’s execution marks the fifth journalist who had covered the Islamic State reported killed since October.
