Three member of fact finding committee formed by Bhartiya Janata Party to look into the Malda violence issue has have been detained by West Bangal police at Malda station.

MPs Bhupendra Yadav, Ram Vilas Vedanti and SS Ahluwalia, the lone BJP member of Parliament from the state, started from Gaur Express at Malda Town station at around 6 AM. The three leaders were soon were asked by the police and district administration officials to go back as prohibitory orders had been promulgated in Kaliachak.

He further said that the team was there to meet the victims of Kaliachak and do the assessment of what exactly happened and why it happened.

“The purpose of the visit was to console the people, to restore their confidence that something like this will not happen in future. Due to pressure from the state government, the district administration said that we cannot go there as Section 144 CrPC has been imposed,” Ahluwalia said

“We are not here to incite or instigate anyone. We are law-abiding citizens and senior MPs but the officials said that we are public figures and our appearance will create problems....the normalcy they have achieved will break down,” he said.

The three leaders said they were here to understand the chain of events in Kaliachak that led to the violence.

The party had earlier dismissed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's claims about the Malda violence not being a 'communal incident' and accused her of protecting her party goons involved in the smuggling of fake currency and drugs.

"It is utter lie that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is speaking that the Malda incident was a clash between the BSF and locals," BJP leader Siddharthnath Singh told ANI.

Bhartiya Janata Party has condemned the incident, while state ruling TMC has accused BJP of flaring up the communal tensions in the State.
