Climate change- the shift in the global and regional climate patterns is affecting not only the environment but the entire ecosystem. From oceans, lands, seasonal farming it is leading to unprecedented warming, floods, droughts and much more.

Climate change is largely attributed to the increased levels of carbon dioxide, greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Not only this, the menace of climate change is also affecting our food patterns.

Scientists believe that there are certain food items that are majorly impacted by the menace of climate change. Here are them:

It has been predicted by scientists that in the next 40 years, the temperature in Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire, where 70% of cocoa is grown, is set to rise by 2C. This will make the climate too hot and dry for growing cocoa trees.

A study published in the journal Science shows that the changing weather conditions, bees have failed to migrate and many populations have died. As they are losing their habitat at an accelerated rate.

They require right moisture and cool underground temperatures to grow. As too much heat will burn the shoots while too little rain will prevent the seeds from germinating.

Apple trees require a certain period of winter chill to bear fruit. But studies have found that rising temperatures are causing apple trees to bear fruit sooner, making them softer and sweeter in taste.

Climate plays the most important role in ripening the fruit to its best quality to produce a particular type of wine. The menace of global warming has put world’s premium wine producing regions under threat.
