Malda (WB):

Senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya today said he was hopeful that his party would form government in West Bengal after the upcoming Assembly elections.

On who would be the party’s chief ministerial candidate, the BJP National General Secretary and Observer for West Bengal said, the name would be decided by the party after the election results.

He refused to give much weightage to the purported moves by the CPI(M) and Congress to form an alliance, and said it out of fear of the ruling Trinamool Congress.

“These two parties hardly have any presence in West Bengal. They are very weak and that is why they are thinking of an alliance,” Vijayvargiya said.

So long they were opposed to each other but are now joining hands, he said, adding, “I am hopeful if there is an alliance, the BJP will be the beneficiary as it will help us win.”

Speaking about the last last municipal elections where the BJP did not perform well, Vijayvargiya alleged the elections had been held in the backdrop of violence.

“Anti-socials roamed with guns and bombs and the will of the people was not properly reflected in the results,” he said.

“But in the Assembly elections, this won’t be the case as there will be tight security. I am confident that the BJP will perform well if the elections are free and fair,” Vijayvargiya added.
