Lucknow :

Flouting civic rules in the City of Nawabs will now come at a price as the Lucknow Municipal Corporation has decided to impose a fine of Rs 500 on those found peeing, spitting and littering on the roads. A bill passed by the civic body has authorised LMC health and sanitation workers to impose the fine on the spot from the wrong doers.

Earlier, also measures were taken which entailed a penalty of Rs 50 but it did not deter the erring residents. In another move to clean up the state, the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has installed CCTV cameras at its bus stations in major cities of the state to keep a watch on those peeing in the open.

UPSTRC’s move comes after its plea to passenger to use restrooms at bus station fell on deaf ears. The civic body, at its executive meeting here on March 22, adopted a proposal to impose a fine of Rs 500 on the spot on people responsible for choking drains by throwing plastic and poly bags, spreading filth, urinating or spitting in the public. People found defecating in the open too will have to pay a fine of Rs 500.

However, LMC’s proposal to increase door-to-door waste collection charges was turned down by the mayor. They wanted to increase user charges to be able to pay increased share to its private partners.

Earlier, the department had levied a fine of Rs 100 on anyone caught urinating in public, which was later increased to Rs 200. Repeat offenders were fined Rs 500, and more similar offences could lead to a fine of up to Rs 5,000, but none of that could stop people from peeing at bus stations.
