New Delhi :

BJP’s Sanjiv Nayyar was today unanimously elected as the new mayor of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation thus completing the hattrick triumph of the party in all three civic bodies in the national capital.

Nayyar, the Paschim Vihar councillor, was the lone candidate who had filed nomination for the post of Mayor and was declared winner in the election that took place at the NDMC headquarters at the Civic Centre.

His party colleague and Rohini ward councilor Tarachand Bansal was also elected unopposed on the post of deputy mayor.

The new mayor said ‘Swachh Bharat’ mission will be his priority.

He listed action against stray dog menace, corruption-free environment and revenue augmentation as his other priorities.

“North Corporation is facing a financial crisis. All efforts would be made to receive the outstanding due funds from the Delhi government and implementation of municipal reforms,” he said.

Vijay Prakash Pandey and Neelam Buddhiraja, both BJP councilors, and Congress councilor Prithvi Singh Rathore were elected on three vacant posts of standing Committee members.

BJP MPs Udit Raj and Meenakshi Lekhi and Leader of Opposition in Delhi Legislative Assembly Vijender Gupta were also present during the election.
