New Delhi:
According to a new research baby sauropods did not require parental care. Young baby sauropods when born no bigger than a soccer ball were quite active, capable of a manoeuvring without help of adult members of their species, study of newly discovered fossil of a baby titanosaurian sauropod has come up with these insights.
Sauropod dinosaurs include the largest animals ever to walk on land. Researchers also found intriguing details which tell that these animals developed quickly to function on their own, just like some birds and herding mammals of today.
Many points were made on their hatching and post-birth lives ranging from their bones to growth. The researchers team also observed microscopic zones deep within the bones. The study areas allowed the researchers to estimate the weight of the newly hatched Rapetosaurus - around 3.5 kilogrammes.
The study was published in the journal Science. (Also read. How deep sea creatures survived asteroids that vanished dinosaurs 65 mn years ago?)
