Himayat Baig, a convict in the German bakery blast case, on Wednesday attacked his jail inmate Rajesh Daware, a convict in the Yug Chandak murder case, in Nagpur Central Prison. Daware was soon given medical assistance in Nagpur Central prison. An FIR was registered against Himayat Baig in Dhantoli police station following the attack.

The double death sentence of both the accused-Rajesh Daware and Arvind Abhilash Singh in the Yug Chandak murder case was upheld on May 5 by the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court. On February 4, a rare double death penalty was awarded to both the convicts for diabolical murder of the 8-year-old Yug Chandak on September 1, 2014. His death had sparked huge outrage and protests in the city.

While on April 18, Baig, the lone German Bakery blast case convict, was sentenced to death by a Pune Sessions court. 17 people were killed and 58 were injured in the German Bakery blast in Pune on February 13, 2010. Five other accused in the case, Mohsin Choudhary, Yasin Bhatkal, Riyaz Bhatkal, Iqbal Bhatkal and Faiyaz Kagzi, are still at large. Baig was arrested in Pune on September 7, 2010.
