Admiral Sunil Lanba takes charge as new Chief of the Naval Staff

New Delhi:

Admiral Sunil Lanba on Tuesday took over as the new Chief of the Naval Staff as the outgoing Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral R.K. Dhowan superannuates from service.

Vice Admiral Sunil Lanba was commissioned into the Executive Branch of Indian Navy on January 1, 1978. During his career spanning nearly 38 years, Lanba has served in a variety of Command, operational and staff appointments.

Lanba’s Sea Command has an inclusion of commanding the minesweeper INS Kakinada, frigate INS Himgiri and Executive Officer of INS Viraat, the aircraft carrier.

Here are some of the important facts to know about him:

  • Lanba was born on July 17, 1957. He was the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C) Western Naval Command.
  • The new Chief of the Naval Staff Lanba is also a qualified specialist in navigation and direction course.
  • He is a recipient of Param Vishist Seva Medal and Ati Vishist Seva Medal
  • Before taking over as FOC-in-C, Western Naval Command, he was FOC-in-C, Southern Naval Command, Vice Chief of the Naval Staff and Commandant, National Defence College.
