New Delhi:

Former captain Anil Kumble was today appointed the Indian cricket team's head coach for a one-year tenure, bringing an end to the prolonged suspense over who will take over the reins of the side and the BCCI president Anurag Thakur said that the Board has complete faith in him.

Kumble's stint as a mentor with IPL teams such as Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians as well as his vast experience as an international cricketer might have tilted the scale in his favour.

“It’s a huge responsibility, ready to take this role. Coaches come later, it’s always players first. Strategy will be to win,” says Kumble. Elated about his new role, he adds, “It's a great honour to be back in Indian dressing room in a different role.”

He says, “Have a short and long plan for the upcoming series, but I cannot plan alone; need players to pitch in.”

“Need to sit down with Sourav, Sachin, Laxman and Dravid and need to do what is best for Indian cricket,” adds the new Indian cricket coach.

Besides, Kumble’s wife Chethana Ramatheertha said, “We will miss him, but very happy as Indian team can’t find such a loyal coach.”
