New Delhi:

Attacking the Centre for its “callous” apporach over the safety of women in the city, the AAP today accused Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh of being “insensitive” towards the issue.

A delegation of AAP women MLAs and party leaders led by Bhavana Gaur and Alka Lamba met Singh at his residence today to discuss women’s security in the wake of a gang rape of a four-year-old girl and a teenager, who was raped and then made to drink an acid like liquid that took her life.

Addressing a news conference, Gaur, who heads the AAP’s women wing accused Singh of being “insensitive” towards the issue. “The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief has been demanding that a high-level committee comprising the Delhi Chief Minister, the Prime Minister and Home Minister, Lt Governor and officials of the DCW should be formed to take up the issue.

“We raised the issue with him (Singh), but instead of taking any concrete step, he asked us to give our grievance in writing. This was very insensitive considering the gravity of the issue,” Gaur said.

Taking a jibe at Singh said, she said the AAP will never approach the Home Minister for “arresting its party legislators”, but will certainly do so to ensure security of women. “The Home Minister controls the Delhi Police and it is his responsibility to ensure safety of women,” Gaur said.
