New Delhi :

Bhartiya Janta Party’s MP Udit Raj courted controversy on Monday by encouraging players to eat or do whatever it takes to win medals, even if it means eating ‘beef’.

Raj, Member of Parliament, (Lok Sabha) from Northwest Delhi gave the example of all means adopted by ‘poor’ Usain Bolt and his coach to get the player fit to win scores of medals for Jamaica.

“Usain bolt of Jamaica was poor and trainer advised him to eat beef both the times and he scored 9 gold medals in Olympic,” Raj tweeted, from his twitter handle, @Dr_Uditraj, on Sunday night.

By Monday morning the tweet went viral, drawing a lot of ire from Twitteratis, the leader gave an explanation for his comment: “I cited circumstances of Jamaica that despite poor infrastructure & poverty Bolt won 9 gold so our players should find ways like that to win.”

Dr. Raj, who is also National Chairman of All India Confederation of SC/ST Organizations, went on to add that eating is players’ personal choice.

“I intended to convey-players & society to look at ways to win in games rather blaming circumstances & Govt & eating is their choice.”

“As usain bolt &trainer found ways and means to win medals similarly  our players and trainers should do as per their circumstances”

"My tweet is not even remotely connected to advocate beef eating rather it is reproduction of Bolt trainer statement"
