New Delhi:

What a brilliant rearguard from the pair of Rohit and Saha. From a position where the visitors might have entertained a little bit of hope, they have taken India "nearly" out of sight.

Even that "nearly" is due to the cliched uncertainties of the game. Still, a lot of credit should go to the way the Kiwis fought today. Right from the first session where their tail wagged, then followed it up by some relentless bowling to put India under actual pressure.

BJ Watling and Jeetan Patel opened the batting for the Kiwis in the morning session and negotiatied the swing well to post some kind of a recovery.

They stitched a half century partnerhsip to guide the Kiwis to 181 before R Ashwin struck a blow by getting rid of Jeetan Patel.

Match Summary, Day 2:

The rain hit second test match between India and New Zealand has entered an interesting phase on its third day. New Zealand’s batsmen have found it tough to face the Indian bowlers till now and scored 128/7 in their first innings.

BJ Watling and Jeetan Patel will open the batting for the New Zealand team on Sunday as they prepare to build their innings. Earlier, on the second day of the match, Indian bowlers dominated the Kiwis to the hilt with pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar picking up a five wicket haul.

New Zealand was destroyed by devastating spells of India’s new ball bowlers. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammad Shami bowled with purpose and didn’t let the NZ batsmen settle down. The pitch supported the seamers and both of them exploited it to the hilt.

Earlier, India scored 316 in its first innings on the basis of a late assault by wicketkeeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha (54) and important contributions from Cheteshwar Pujara (87) and Ajinkya Rahane (77).

India has made an amazing comeback in the match and is still 188 runs ahead of New Zealand. As far as the Kiwis are concerned, their India tour has turned into a nightmare as they face the prospect of another big defeat.
