Leaders pay floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, apostle of peace and non violence

Puducherry:

Puduchery Lt Governor Kiran Bedi, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, his cabinet colleagues, Speaker V Vaithilingam, Deputy Speaker V P Sivakolundhu, MLAs and officials of several departments paid floral tributes at Mahatma Gandhi’s statue on the occasion of his 147th birth anniversary on Sunday. 

Representatives of the Hindu, Islamic and Christian religions presented from out of their respective religions` holy books the messages highlighting peace and human qualities which were practised as guiding principles by the Mahatma.

Teachers of the Puducherry government run Bharathiar Palakalikoodam (a multi-disciplinary art and cultural institution) presented patriotic songs dearest to Gandhiji on the occasion. 

Charka weaving also added to the highlight of the celebration of the birth anniversary of the champion of non-violence and peace. Earlier Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated on the premises of the Puducherry PCC with Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, PWD Minister and PCC president A Namassivayam among others paying floral tributes at the portrait of the Mahatma.
