New Delhi:

Defending champions India inflicted a heavy defeat on Argentina, beating them 74-20 in their group fixture played out on Saturday evening at the TransStadia Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The defending champions India were all dominant against minnows Argentina and the match looked like more of a David vs Goliath contest.

India were dominant from the very start and had the South Americans all out twice within ten minutes.

The Indians looked to be on a roll all through the match as their star raiders Anup Kumar and Ajay Thakur leapt like tigers against a hapless Argentine defence. Ajay Thakur top scored for India with 14 points to his name.

Meanwhile, the Argentine raiders were at sea against the Indian defence which thwarted most of their raiding attempts.

Host India sent out a warning of sorts to rest of the title contenders that they were very much in contention to defend their World Cup crown.

After being upset by the Koreans in their opening game, team India has gone from strength to strength after registering impressive wins over Australia and South Asian powerhouse Bangladesh.

The Indians have virtually secured a birth in the semi-finals and are on course to take on a formidable Iranian side which currently top Group B.
