Kishtwar:
Fire destroyed an entire village named Sukhnai in Kishtwar district of Jammu on Saturday. Out of 84 houses in the village 80 were destroyed due to fire.
According to eyewitness, this is the time in the year when villagers cut grass. On Saturday evening a bulk of grass was left somewhere which caught fire and engulfed the entire village.
It was disappointing to know that in this era of 21st century this village has no telephone and road services. It took an entire day for information of village catching fire to reach district headquarters.
Divisional commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir reached the village on helicopter. As of now people suffering due to fire are relocated in nearby villages and their losses are estimated.
There were 15 ‘gaushalas’ or sanctuary for cows, that were also got burned and many animals have died.
