A fire broke in a high rise tower in Mumbai on Tuesday morning, killing at least two people. According to reports, the firegutted the flat of Shekhar Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Electricals, located at the 20th floor of the Maker Tower in Cuffe Parade area.
Eight firefighting trucks were rushed to the spot. More details are awaited.
“The fire broke out at the 20th floor of residential Maker Chamber following which 10 fire tenders rushed to the spot,” a senior official from the fire brigade said.
The incident took place in ‘A’ Wing of Maker Chamber at Cuff Parade at 6.37 am and, therefore, there were people sleeping in the tower at the time of incident, an official from fire brigade control room said.
Two persons were killed in the fire while 11 others were rescued, according to police and firefighters. The blaze was said to be in control, the senior official from the fire brigade said.
This is the second fatal incident of fire in one night. A major fire in Bhubaneswar hospital killed at least 19 people, injuring 109 others on Monday night.
