New Delhi:

Social media platform Facebook has extended its payment support by adding PayPal in its instant messaging app Messenger. Users will now be able to pay for products and services via their PayPal accounts in the US.

Before this, Messenger used to only allow payment via credit and debit cards. Now with the addition of a new payment partner, users will be able to easily use the service via a chatbot after liking PayPal account on Messenger or Facebook.

PayPal ‘s EVP and Chief Operating Officer Bill Ready said in a company’s blog post, “To continue ushering in this new commerce paradigm, today we are announcing an extension of our relationship with Facebook and Messenger, to help make mobile commerce smarter, simpler and more secure for consumers as well as merchants."

Whenever users perform a transaction on messenger via PayPal, the payment service will send notification users and also issue a receipt and other payment details.

Significantly Facebook joined hands with Uber and PayPal’s subsidiary Braintree for allowing for the payment of rides in December 2015.

PayPal has already partnered with various payment services like MasterCard, Visa, Claor, Telcel, Alibaba and Vodafone. Earlier BlackBerry Messenger had also tied up with PayPal for payment solution.
