San Francisco:
Apple on Friday unveiled new MacBook Pro laptops infused with touch control features that have almost become a thing of rage among people. MacBook Pro models shown off at a special event at Apple’s headquarters in Silicon Valley touted keyboards that had “Touch Bar” controls where function keys have traditionally been positioned.
You no longer get USB ports, instead you will have to make do with Thunderbolt 3.0 ports, which have the same connector as USB Type-C. The new MacBook Pros have four of them and they will be used to connect other peripherals as well as charging.
New MacBook Pro models with 13-inch and 15-inch screens also had “Touch ID” fingerprint reading sensors built into power buttons, meaning that people will be able to unlock machines or make online purchases using fingers to confirm their identity. Both the models are thinner than their predecessors.
Apple senior vice president of worldwide marketing Phil Schiller referred to new MacBook Pro models as the “gold standard” in notebook computers.
Apple began taking orders on Thursday, with touch-enhanced models promised to begin shipping within three weeks and the standard keyboard version available immediately.
Below are some of the specifications of the newly unveiled MacBook Pro laptops
#Touch bar: The 6th Gen MacBook Pro features multi-touch control OLED strip which replaces the basic function key row on Apple's keyboard. It gives access to all standard key functions to users. Touch bar is fully interactive and context-sensitive. It also displays Tabs and Safari which enable an easy acess to emoji in Messages.
#Touch ID: An innovative second-generation Touch ID fingerprint scanner is embedded beneath sapphire crystal on the right end of the Touch Bar.
#Quick Type: The new Touch Bar also displays Quick Type suggestions as you type. The Quick Type shows word, emoji and other suggestions as you type.
#Display: It is claimed to be 67 per cent brighter than its predecessor. It also has a 67 per cent contrast ratio in comparison.
#Connectivity: The models feature four USB Type-C ports which support Thunderbolt 3 as well as USB 3.1 Gen 2 speeds. The one sans touch bar has only two ports.
