Major Personalities and people across the world are sharing their reaction to the death of Cuban revolutionary icon Fidel Castro.
President-elect Donald Trump on Saturday weighed in on the death of Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro, tweeting simply “Fidel Castro is dead!”
According to AFP reports, Trump also said that Castro was brutal dictator who oppressed his people.
While, Russian President Vladimir Putin heaped lavish praise on former President and revolutionary leader of Cuba, Fidel Castro.was described as the "symbol of an era," in a Kremlin statement on Saturday.
"The name of this distinguished statesman is rightly considered the symbol of an era in modern world history, Fidel Castro was a sincere and reliable friend of Russia," Putin said in a telegram to Cuban President Raul Castro cited by the Kremlin.
While UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon also said the Cuban leader was an "emblematic figure" of the Cuban revolution. He said, "Under former President Castro, Cuba made advances in the fields of education, literacy and health. I hope Cuba will continue to advance on a path of reform and greater prosperity."
Canadian Prime Minisr Justin Trudeau also marked the death of Cuba's revolutionary leader Fidel Castro calling him a "remarkable leader" who would be mourned by Canada.
"While a controversial figure, both Mr Castro's supporters and detractors recognised his tremendous dedication and love for the Cuban people who had a deep and lasting affection for 'El Comandante,'" he said in a statement.
Whereas, US President Barack Obama too condoled the death of Cuban leader Fidel Castro, saying that history will record and judge the enormous impact of this singular figure on the people and world around him.
"At this time of Fidel Castro's passing, we extend a hand of friendship to the Cuban people. We know that this moment fills Cubans - in Cuba and in the United States - with powerful emotions, recalling the countless ways in which Fidel Castro altered the course of individual lives, families, and of the Cuban nation. History will record and judge the enormous impact of this singular figure on the people and world around him," Obama said in a statement.
Syria President Bashar al-Assad also hailed Fidel Castro's "legendary resistance" to the embargo imposed by the United States against Cuba in a statement marking the death of the revolutionary leader. "The great leader Fidel Castro led his people's and his country's struggle against imperialism and hegemony for decades," Assad, whose government is facing US sanctions, said in a message of condolences.
From the sports world, Argentine soccer legend Diego Maradona lamented the death of former Cuban leader Fidel Castro as the loss of a "great" man who was "like a second father" to him. "I'm terribly sad as he was like a second father," Maradona told reporters in Zagreb, where he watched the Davis Cup final between Argentina and Croatia.
French President Francois Hollande also praised Fidel Castro's contribution while saying, "Fidel Castro was a great figure of the 20th century. He aroused much hope with the Cuban revolution."
