Hyderabad:

CBI has registered a case against three postal department employees for allegedly exchanging new currency notes worth about Rs 36 lakh meant for public distribution.

No arrests have been made in the case, sources said.

“They exchanged new currencies which was meant for public. They diverted it... They have taken up Rs 36 lakh roughly and replaced it with old currencies and showed that it has been exchanged,” they said.

The case has been registered against senior superintendent Sudheer Babu and two other employees Raviteja and Revati.

Investigation is on to find out other aspects, including any beneficiaries, the sources added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8 had announced his government’s decision to demonetise Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes.
