In an unprecedented incident, old currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 were recovered from a stream in Uttarakhand's Haldwani on Monday. 

Locals had to use nets to take out the notes flowing in the stream.

As the notes were spotted by some people, others too appeared on the scene. 

The notes have been seized by the police force.

However, the face value of the recovered money remains still unknown. 

The old notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 became invalid since the November 8 declaration of PM Narendra Modi on demonetisation.People had been advised to deposit these scrapped notes in their bank accounts.

It's not the first time that demonetised currency has been recovered in an unclaimed state.

Some days ago, burnt parts of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes were recovered at a place in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly. 

On November 13, two big bags filled with Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes were found in a dustbin. 

The cops had claimed that those notes had been torn by the owner.
