Hyderabad:

Losing weight is 80 per cent psychological and 20 per cent physical, well-known singer and music composer Adnan Sami stated Adnan Sami at a convention in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Sami, who was heavily overweight some years ago, successfully shed several kilos to emerge as a role model for those wishing to reduce their weight.

Speaking at a conclave on wellness, the 45-year-old ‘kabhi toh nazar milao’ singer said he made up his mind to reduce his weight after he was told by a doctor in the presence of his father that he would not survive for long if he continued to have the same weight.

“My father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 1989.  Since then he was fighting cancer and finally succumbed to it in 2009. During those years, while on a medical checkup in London, he insisted I must also get the check-up done. When I got myself checked up, the doctor pronounced that, given my medical condition, I wouldn’t survive long.

“It was said on the face of my father, who later told me he would not want me to die before him. That one word made me determine to shed that weight. I was 230 kgs then. I worked hard on it. I lost 160 kgs in six years. Losing weight was 80 per cent psychological and 20 per cent physical,” Sami was quoted as saying at the “Wellness Congress” in a release.

Earlier in an interaction, Sami spoke on opting for Indian citizenship. Noting that he lived in India for 17 years, he said, “India is my karma bhoomi (workplace). I lived in various countries. But, my heart was always in India due to the love showered on me by the people.

“I had my own ups and downs in getting Indian citizenship. But, ultimately I got it and I am happy about it. I like India. My love is here. I am a proud Indian,” said the singer, who is of Pakistani origin.
