Mumbai:

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan says his stardom has overtaken his acting capabilities but he doesn’t believe in curbing himself from doing different kind of roles on screen.

In his next film “Raees”, directed by Rahul Dholakia, the 51-year-old actor will be playing a bootlegger Raees Alam, whose business is highly challenged and eventually thwarted by a police officer, ACP Majmudar (Nawazuddin Siddqui).

“I am here to play different kind of roles. I think my stardom has overtaken my acting capability and it’s alright. I try to do different and interesting stuff with every film. I had never done something like that before. I am fortunate that I got to do different films,” Shah Rukh told reporters here at the trailer of “Raaes”.

“It feels great that Rahul Dholakia thought of me for ‘Raaes’. It shows that he thought of me as an actor first rather than the star. I thank him for that. I don’t think stars should ever curb themselves and I never will.”

Considering that the plot line of “Raaes” revolves around crime, Shah Rukh thinks the film will not face problem with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). “I have never had problems with censor board. I am a family hero.”

SRK says he believes in maintaining a fine balance by doing commercial entertainers and also content-driven films.

“I do happy-go-lucky films once in a year. I like to do roles that are different, complicated and complex but yet in commercial zone. It’s a bigger challenge.”

SRK has in the past played negative or grey characters in films like “Darr”, “Anjam”, “Don” and now “Raaes” and he thinks being normal is lifeless.

“I am not arrogant or shoddy but I am a bad boy. I don’t go by rules and do and say weird things. I feel that normal is lifeless, one has to be a little mean. I am extremely bad but my dimples save me,” he jokes.

For the first time, the “Dilwale” star has teamed up with Nawazuddin Siddqui and he calls him a talented actor.

“When all the good artists work together, it makes everyone emotional. I always say about myself that a star comes in poster and takes all the credit but actors like Nawazuddin make us look best on the screen.”

Nawazuddin, who has worked with both Shah Rukh and Salman Khan, says both the stars are good at their work.

“Every actor has his own style and uniqueness. I am fan of both of them and why should I choose between them?”
