Dehradun:

Uttarakhand government will spend Rs 161 crore for creation of livelihood opportunities and improvement of agricultural produce in the calamity hit areas of Uttarakhand to help affected people back on their feet.

The amount will be spent under Integrated Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and Integrated Livelihood Support Project (ILSP) with emphasis on skill development and creation of self-employment opportunities for the affected people, an official release here said.

Making the announcement while chairing a meeting of the steering committee of IFAD and ILSP, state's Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar said milk deposit centres should be opened and measures be taken for livestock development and promotion of entrepreneurship among the rural populace in affected areas so that they get employment.

He asked officials concerned to prepare monthly targets and work to the best of their ability to achieve it.

The Chief Secretary gave directions to work on opening milk distribution centers; generating market for livestock development, sale of fruits and vegetables, village development and eco tourism.

There will be an increase in production of dairy, traditional crops, vegetables, spices and fruits.

Several departments will be identified to boost dairy farming, and poultry.

Under the programme, 83 milk distribution centers will be set up. Help will be taken from the existing 71 centers. A survey has been done to for the vocational training programmes. Eight courses have been identified for nine blocks.

Four companies and one NGO have been identified to impart training and 15,000 people will be trained under this programme. Besides, 125 students will get trained for three courses from open university.
