A prime witness in Nitish Katara murder case has lodged a complaint against a Noida-based Congress leader and “close aide” of D P Yadav for allegedly demanding extortion in Sahibabad area here.
Ajay Katara in his complaint at Sahibabad police station of Ghaziabad, has alleged that Congress leader Kriparam Sharma, who is the president of Noida unit of Congress, has threatened to kill him if he failed to pay Rs 50 lakh, a senior police officer said.
The complaint was lodged on Saturday. “Katara also alleged that Sharma is a close aide of DP Yadav. Police are investigating Katara’s allegations,” said a senior police officer.
DP Yadav is an influential strongman of western UP and his son Vikas Yadav and nephew Vishal Yadav are accused in the murder of Nitish Katara.
The officer said a probe into the matter was on and the Congress leader could be arrested.
While, Congress leader Kriparam Sharma has refuted the allegations made by Katara as “politically motivated”.
In January this year, three UP police constables, deputed for security of Ajay Katra had filed a complaint, alleging their colleague had offered them Rs 50 lakh each for “not defending” Ajay during an attack planned at the behest of politician DP Yadav.
Katara had on October 25 last year also registered a case against Yadav and his supporters for threatening to kill him.
Nitish Katara was allegedly abducted from a wedding of his classmate in Ghaziabad on the night of February 16, 2002 allegedly by Vikas and Vishal Yadav.
His charred remains were later found near Hapur crossing in a village Khurja in Bulandshahar, UP.
