New Delhi:

AAP's candidate from Ghaziabad seat, Shazia Ilmi on Tuesday raked another controversy after urging Muslim leaders to remain communal and not follow secularism as propagated by Congress.

In the video, Shazia llmi is seen asking some Muslim leaders to support the party instead of Congress. Ilmi can be heard saying that, "Muslims need to be less secular and should become a bit communal for their own good. I know this is controversial, but necessary."

However, later clarifying her remarks she mentioned that her intention was not to communalise voters, but to ask people not to vote with any fear of Modi or anybody else.

She clarified, “When I tell somebody don’t be smart that doesn’t mean he should be dumb. Communal does not mean inciting violence. They (Muslims) must not be slaves to any political party. I was saying this sarcastically. I was telling them that to think about themselves. Why they should live in fear, what has these political parties have done for Muslims? That is the reason I told them to be communal. Why they should be scared of RSS and Modi?”

Reacting on the issue, another AAP leader, Manish Sisodiya commented that the party does not go with what Shazia said. It is wrong on her part to say so.

He tweeted, "I've seen Shazia's clip. She should have not said it. AAP does not believe in communal politics. Our politics is to unite all Indians."
