New Delhi:

"Guru Govind Dou Khade Ka Ke Laagu Paye, Balihari Guru Aapne Govind Diyo Bataye", said Sant Kabir. The 'doha' beautifully narrates the importance of 'guru' or teacher. It says 'guru' is greater than Govind or God as he guides a person and shows the way to reach the eternal power.

The saying by Kabir is popular even today and is part of the various lessons that are taught to children in schools. But some teachers today have turned into real-life ‘monsters’. They brutally beat children; they show them obscene clips, they even rape them, shameful!

Time and again we come across several incidents of child abuse. In recent times several such cases have come to light. In Andhra Pradesh, a principal mercilessly beat up three visually challenged boys with cane. He even pushed one of the children against the wall, while another person assisted him in the brutal act.

In another barbaric incident, a lady tutor was caught on a CCTV camera beating a 4-year-old child at his house in Kolkata. She even held the child upside down and threw him on the bed. The incident makes it clear that your child is not even safe at home!

A similar incident, caught on video, recently went viral on social media in which a woman, apparently a maid, was seen thrashing and slapping a toddler as he cries uncontrollably, she even hits her with a cellphone. The brutality continued for nearly an hour. The visual gave me shivers down my spine. It was so inhuman that I could barely watch it, but it didn’t melt her heart, a woman’s heart!

More such incidents are coming to light, thanks to media and social networking websites. With the sharing of these videos on platforms like Facebook, parents are becoming more cautious now.

To prevent such crimes, people have started monitoring their child by installing CCTV cameras at their homes. But this is not the exact solution to the problem. You are still risking your child’s life.

Such acts show the criminal mentality of some people. It is a high time when teachers should be provided counselling and parents should learn the ways to keep their child safe. Stern action should be taken against the culprits, child abuse laws need to be more stringent. I think this will help in lowering down the rate of such incidents.
