After meeting Japan Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida, PM Narendra Modi on Monday addressed the Japan Chamber of Commerce & Industry in Tokyo.

Modi was attending the business lunch organised by Nippon Keidanren at Tokyo.

Addressing the businessmen, Modi said, "I am working for 3 months in the PMO to bring Japan’s effectiveness home. People's expectations from me have risen as I became a PM. Good governance is my priority. Being a Gujarati, commerce is in my blood. It is policymaker's & Govt's responsibility to provide environment for businessmen."

Talking about India's economy growth, he mentioned, "In the 1st quarter itself we have made a jump with a growth rate of 5.7%. "Go/no go" makes it hard to make decisions for people, but with such a huge mandate comes great accountability. The political; stability in both our countries will be very fruitful for us."

Emphasising on the fact that India wants to follow Japan's model of skill development, Modi added, "I want to reach that level of skill development that matches the global requirement. We also want to work with Japan in the field of research and development. We have taken a lot of initiatives in our Budget, Defense & Railways, the result of which you will see in coming days."

"21st century is Asia's century. But the question I think about is "how" the century is. Indo-Japan ties are crucial for peace in Asia. Onus is on both elected govts to deliver to people for faith shown in us."

Praising Japan, Modi stated, "I am sure I am standing in a room full of people who can alter world's economy. Have decided that directly under PMO we want to create a team that will work to facilitate Japan. If we want to lead the world's economy then India & Japan have to work together."
