Opinion: From Modi to Modinomics

Instead, Modi's Early Moves In Economic Policy Have Been Relatively Cautious. More Or Less All His Policies Seem To Be Lifted Up Directly From His Predecessors UPAs Notebooks Rather Than Changing Anything He Simple Was In Continuation.

New Delhi:

Narendra Modi the person commanded a lot of authority. When the 31% of the Indian population voted him to power it was more of his aura that had worked rather than anything else. He almost convinced each of the voter that indeed “good days” (ache din) are not very far away.

The road however was not smooth for Modi the resistance from the remaining 69% voters was definitely irksome. Had it not been for the first past the post system winning would been difficult. To sum up he had both positive and negative feedback, the Gujarat riots or the Gujarat model both gave him the share of his attention. But it cannot be denied that the reason why he was voted to power was his mantra of social and economic development which I call “Modinomics”.  So what are the expectations from Narendra Modi the PM and his Modinomics”.

Except for a few naïve followers everyone definitely know there is no magic wand to make development an overnight affair but a reasonable expectation of control of inflation, basic amenities etc are not too much ask for. To push through politically risky changes, like restructuring subsidies for fuel and food and lifting caps on foreign direct investment in important sectors like defense was hoped.

Instead, Modi's early moves in economic policy have been relatively cautious. More or less all his policies seem to be lifted up directly from his predecessors UPAs notebooks rather than changing anything he simple was in continuation.

In his revolutionary Independence day speech he announced the dismantling of the Planning Commission and this definitely grabbed eyeballs. But the question that remains to be answered is that can we afford to move from socialism.

A country with such a huge population and as many aspirations large and small can we afford to lose focus. When he recently announced his Jan Dhan Yojana it reiterated his commitment for socialist regime but the further policies need to be seen because he is PM of the 100% and not of those only who voted for him.

In the election Manifesto Bjp said they will bring black money back but after 100 days of Modi govt, but we are not able to see any concrete step taken by prime minister in this regard.

While his friendship with neighbors strengthens our commitment towards “Panchsheel” but what we saw recently in our borders with Pakistan definitely points out that there’s something terribly wrong when it comes to asserting ourselves in terms of firm international behavior.

We have to find a solution for long pending kashmir issue.Unless we solve the kashmir issue , our country will not be stable. At the same time we need to develop strong ties with other countries of sub continent to counter the mighty China. BRICS is the group what Modi needs to focus upon because the big five can only have respect for our nation only when our regional ties and strategic ties are firm and assertive.

The expectation from Modinomics is to give the common man an inclusive and firm country not necessarily in the most adventurist way or superhuman manner but definitely in a reasonable way. The rising prices, disturbed borders, issues of safety and security, there are a lot of loose ends and the handling of all these remains to be seen.
