New Delhi:

Finding Fanny, with its bit of alliteration in the name and the surrealistic setting tells us how a good entertaining movie can be made without adding much of the ‘Mirch Masala’ usually associated with Bollywood.

The film finds its base on a simple concept – love is a driving force for all. As they say, don’t wait for love to come to you, instead go for it. The film circles around the quest of finding the 46-year-old love of a postmaster.

Based on the penny plain concept, Finding Fanny can be termed as a niche movie of Bollywood which the industry rarely dwells upon. Thanks to Homi Adajania and Kersi Khambatta for writing such a nice script which did not have to rely on the crutches of an item number or below the belt jokes to carry its weight.

The look and feel of the film, which truly remind of director Homi Adajania's directorial debut Being Cyrus, is simple and much more realistic to develop a connection with audiences.

For a good movie, the script is the core but a talented star cast with strong actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Dimple Kapadia, Deepika Padukone and Arjun Kapoor surely helps. The performances are nonetheless commendable, especially the song sung by Naseeruddin at many times.

All the actors have added to the humour in their own way. On an individual note - Pankaj Kapoor’s artistic ‘Madame’ gets painted with your imagination, Naseeruddin’s expressions are a must watch, Dimple Kapadia (the ‘Madame’ with big bums) is emotionally hilarious, Deepika Padukone is the good girl and leaves an impression and last but not the least Arjun Kapoor has intelligently changed his bad boy image.

‘Nothing is perfect in the world’ – same goes for movie as it has its own ups and downs. We were told that the censor board has agreed to allow ‘I am a virgin’ dialogue in the film, but, surprisingly it was found nowhere. The emotions are subtle yet impacting and the movie has its share of ups and downs.

While the film was gathering pace by every passing frame in the beginning, climax was applying all sorts of breaks to it. In the beginning, Deepika Padukone made herself a narrator and the quest to convince all for the joy ride is very much watchable. Keeping ups and downs aside, the film is an all in all take on life and love.
