Goal glut in Subroto Cup; Bengal team mauls Lanka school 20-0

Krishnadevpur High School from West Bengal mauled Sri Lanka Defence School from Colombo 20-0 in a Pool A match in the 55th Subroto Cup international football tournament here on wednesday.

From the same pool, NCC Maharashtra found a whipping horse in NNM High Secondary School from Kerala at Dr Ambedkar Stadium here.

The Maharashtra team thrashed the schoolboys from Chelembra 5-0 to share the top slot with KDP school from West Bengal. They both have same number points each from one win and one draw.

Though Mohammad Shabaz opened the account for the West Bengal school, it was Amit Dey who struck six times to be the top goal-scorer for the team. The next best efforts came from Robin Yadav who scored four goals, followed by Noren Tudu (3), Rahul Chandha (3), Tushar (2) and Sougata Dey (1) to complete the rout against the Sri Lankan team.

As for the NCC team from Maharashtra, their main striker Rushikesh More scored twice in the 27th and 46th minutes while Kamran Ansari, Devraj and Koku struck a goal each for their team.

Birjhora Higher Secondary School from Bongaigaon, Assam drew goalless with Southpoint Public School, Sonepat (Haryana) in a group D match, while Government Secondary School from the Car Nicobar Islands forfeited their group D match to Bethany Convent High School from Goa. The Goa school earned full points.

The days’s afternoon matches saw goals being showered as Govt Chawngfianga Middle School, Mizoram  and  Maharashtra High School & Junior College were both in ruthless form as they netted 12 goals against  Govt Boys Higher Sec School, Chhattisgarh and Govt Sr Sec School, Lakswadeep respectively.

Also the visiting school team from Nepal, Lok Smriti H S School beat Sainik School, Imphal 5-1.

Meanwhile, during the last matches of the day, Green Wood School, Nagaland drew with St. Ignatius, School, Jharkhand 1-1 as  Jaibir Kumar from Jharkhand pulled off a last minute equaliser to remain in contention.
