New Delhi:

Saying no to compromise with the number of seats offered by Shiv Sena to BJP, the party hinted that they might contest Maharashtra by-polls on their owns if no satisfactory decision is taken.

If sources are to be believed, BJP in its Parliamentary Board meeting decided names of candidates for 170 seats in the assembly polls.

The meeting was held in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Reports also suggest that he and Amit Shah took special private 10 minutes to discuss some key issues.

“PM Narendra Modi not in favour of ending Shiv Sena-BJP alliance, wants talks over seat sharing to continue with Shiv Sena,” said sources to ANI.

On the other hand, Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray has also came with a deadline and said he will wait for BJP’s decision till Monday. If no decision comes in then he will announce the name of his candidates.

Earlier on the day, 'Matoshree', the residence of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray in suburban Bandra, saw a flurry of activity throughout the day with the party leadership meeting district unit chiefs and local leaders to finalise the list of candidates for October 15 Assembly elections.

According to a Sena leader, the meetings were attended by party MPs and senior leaders.

Though the leader termed the development as "routine meetings to finalise candidates", they came against the backdrop of tough posturing by both the Sena and BJP over finalisation of seats to contest the polls.
