Washington:

Apple has issued a patch for its OS X Lion, Mountain Lion and Mavericks software to protect against the Shellshock security flaw.

The company on Monday said that it had created a site for users to download the Bash update, CNET reports.

The announcement comes even as Apple last week said that majority of Mac users were safe from the security vulnerability known as the Bash or Shellshock bug.

An Apple spokesperson said in a statement to iMore earlier that the vast majority of OS X users were not at risk to recently reported Bash vulnerabilities.

The company said that while Bash, "a Unix command shell and language included in OS X, has a weakness that could allow unauthorized users to remotely gain control of vulnerable systems", with OS X systems Mac systems were "safe by default" and not exposed to remote exploits of bash unless users configure advanced Unix services".
