Indian shuttlers Anand Pawar and Saili Rane notched up contrasting victories to advance to the quarterfinals of men’s and women’s singles event respectively at the USD 50,000 Scottish Open Grand Prix, here today.

Pawar, seeded seven, prevailed over Erik Meijs of Holland 21-17, 21-17 in a men’s singles match that lasted 43 minutes, while Saili had to grind it out against English Fontaine Mica Chapman 21-16, 17-21, 21-18 in a 57-minute women’s singles match at the Emirates Arena.

Pawar had beaten Swede Mikael Westerback and Denmark’s Kim Bruun in the first two rounds and his win against Meijs took his head-to-head record against the Dutch to 3-0.

Saili, who had defeated Matilda Petersen of Switzerland, had a difficult outing today as she dropped a game before getting back her bearing to tame Chapman.
