Chelsea drawn against Liverpool, Tottenham against Sheffield in League Cup

Chelsea, who currently top the Premier League table, have been drawn against Liverpool in the semifinals of the League Cup, with Tottenham Hotspur set to face Sheffield United in the other tie.

League One side Sheffield United have already knocked out Premier League teams Southampton and West Ham United on their route to facing 2008 winners Tottenham.

The two-legged ties would be played next month, with the final to be held on March 1, The BBC reported.

Liverpool and Chelsea both overcame Championship opposition with 3-1 away victories in the quarterfinals. Brendan Rodgers’ side won at Bournemouth on Wednesday, a day after Chelsea beat Derby County.

Rodgers said that it didn’t matter who they got in the draw, adding that it was just important to get there. He said that to win this competition one has to win games against big sides.

Tottenham beat Newcastle 4-0 to book their place in the semifinals, while Sheffield United were 1-0 victors against Southampton.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino said that they have respect for Sheffield as it is never easy, and added that they deserve to be in the semifinal, claiming that his side expects a tough game.
