Wellington:

Jamaican sprint superstar Usain Bolt is against the changes to Olympics athletics programmes and has termed the reports suggesting the 200-metres being among five events at risk of being removed from the Games as ridiculous, saying that it must not happen.

The six-time Olympic champion was responding to an article from an Australian media company, which said that the event Bolt has won at the last two Summer Olympics is one of five key disciplines at risk.

Bolt said that normally he is not a controversial person, but added that he thinks that’s just stupid. He claimed that personally, track and field is the highlight of the Olympics every edition, and that’s not even a question, Stuff.co.nz reported.

The Jamaican sprinter also said that when one is going to try to take events away from the track and field event, adding that it is just ridiculous and he doesn’t think the IAAF should stand for that at all.

The International Olympic Committee voted last week to approve a wide-ranging package of reforms that could radically change the face of the amateur sporting world, but it did not mention specific sports and events, the report added.
