New Delhi:

Delhi Metro today rolled out its first fully advertisement-wrapped train on the Yellow Line route spanning Jahangirpuri to HUDA City Centre.

The metro train wrap, rolled out by e-commerce firm ‘IndiaMART’, featured Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan as its brand ambassador.

Earlier, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had inducted the first-ever train with advertisements wrapped on its exterior on Dwarka Vaishali route of Blue Line that is Line ¾.

Approximately 15 such trains will be inducted, initially with seven trains on Line 2 from Jahangirpuri  HUDA City Centre and eight trains on Line ¾ which are the busiest lines of the metro network.

Currently only six coach trains are being wrapped.

To augment the non-operational revenues of DMRC through advertisements, the Delhi Metro has awarded exclusive advertising rights for displaying advertising materials including pictures, printed material, electric/electronic media, smart posters, holographic images, visual displays, etc on the external part of its trains.

Another advertisement-wrapped metro train on the Blue Line route, from Dwarka to Noida, will be rolled out from tomorrow.

Sumit Bedi, Vice President (Marketing), IndiaMART said, “We are extremely thrilled to be the first brand to wrap the Delhi Metro on the Yellow line route. Being one of the most popular modes of travel in the city, metro promises to create a high brand recall among the people.”

The Yellow line route is one of the longest routes of Delhi Metro. Besides travelling through important business hubs like Chandni Chowk, Chawri Bazar and Kashmere Gate, the route also covers Gurgaon, where the big corporate houses reside.

Currently, DMRC operates a fleet of over 200 train sets with over 60 eight-coach trains and over 80 six-coach trains.  The ‘train wraps’ have been permitted on 10 per cent of the total train sets available on the operational lines of Delhi Metro network.
