Lucknow:

Junior teachers, protesting near the state Assembly here against the delay in issuance of appointment letters, today alleged that police resorted to lathicharge, causing injuries to some of them.

Nine teachers have been injured in the incident, Vaibhav Yadav, a member of the Junior Teachers Niyukti Morcha, claimed. The injured have been hospitalised.

Despite the completion of the selection process several months ago, appointment letters have not yet been issued as the government is not appropriately taking up the issue in the court where the matter is pending, Vivekanand Pandey, President of Junior Teachers Niyukti Morcha, said.

The teachers had been sitting on dharna since December 11.
